Overton House

Today I visited Overton House near Dumbarton, where I was born nearly forty-four years ago. The house has fallen into a fairly poor state of repair but work is on-going to restore at least some of its former glory. This image probably doesn't really do the house much justice but it gives some idea of its grandeur from days gone by.

  1. I had the privilege of living and working at the Overton house in the summer of '09. I got to help clean and decorate one of the flats upstairs. I think that it is going to be beautiful when it is complete :)

PS: I encourage people to visit their tea room. The chocolate cheese cake is great!

    1. Sorry I'm only replying now to your comment. I do hope you get a chance to read it. The angels are still on the ceiling. They are now part of the tearoom which is perhaps two rooms knocked into one. I think I was actually born in that room. I should have a picture of the angels on the ceiling which I'll gladly send you if you tell me where to email it to.

I was born in SEP 1965. Despite moving away from the area before I was two years old, I have since discovered two friends who I met in later life were also born in Overton.

And yes, I often perplex people by saying I'm a son of the rock, when they ask where I was born. I think Dumbarton football club also have the nickname, "The Sons of the Rock".

Thank you for taking the time to make your comments. It really is much appreciated.
